This depicts the assault on the Spring Hill Redoubt . The French had already made several attempts and a few even got inside. The 2nd South Carolina and other American units then joined the attack with Sergeant Jasper taking the blue color from a wounded officer.Jasper was then mortally wounded and handed the color back to the officer who was then killed and fell on it. The British picked it up after the battle and took it to England. The Smithsonian has it now. The red flag was saved but has disappeared into history.
