Stitch A Cheeky Escape, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — two woolly sheep stand in a field of daisies watching red and yellow hot air balloons drift across a blue sky.

A little stitcher's folklore: the first hot air balloon passengers, in 1783, were a sheep, a duck and a cockerel.

Why this kit: based on original artwork by Lucy Pittaway, the UK's most popular published artist in 2022, it pairs her sheep with a playful sky.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, needles and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the sky and balloons in cross stitch from the centre, then the sheep and daisies, and finish the details in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A happy, light-hearted piece for any room.
