Stitch Blown Away, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — two Highland cows huddle together, their long fringes blowing in the wind.

A little stitcher's folklore: a group of Highland cattle is called a 'fold' rather than a herd, a name that goes back to the stone enclosures once used to shelter them in winter.

Why this kit: from Bothy Threads' long-running Wrendale Designs range by Hannah Dale, it matches the rest of the collection if you want to build a gallery wall.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida printed with Bothy Threads' exclusive Wrendale Designs speckle, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the cows in cross stitch from the centre, then add the fringe and heather in back stitch and the French knots.

Finished size: 30×26 cm (11.8×10.2 in). A windswept piece from the Winter 2024 Collection.
