Stitch Damsels and Dragons, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a green frog clings to a purple iris stem while a dragonfly darts over the flowers.

A little stitcher's folklore: dragonflies were once called 'devil's darning needles', said to sew up the lips of children who told lies.

Why this kit: from Bothy Threads' long-running Wrendale Designs range by Hannah Dale, it matches the rest of the collection if you want to build a gallery wall.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive speckled background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches and back stitch. A frame is not included.

Stitch the irises and frog in cross stitch from the centre, then add the stems and wings in back stitch.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A pond-side piece for a garden lover.
