Stitch Home for Christmas, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a blue-grey town house with a green door and wreath stands in the snow behind a white picket fence, with a snowman, bare birch trees and a crescent moon.

A little stitcher's folklore: the first commercial Christmas card was sent in 1843 by Sir Henry Cole, and the Victorians soon made card-sending a national habit.

Why this kit: designed by Karen Tye Bentley, it is stitched on colour-printed Aida with sparkle thread and beads, so the snowy sky is ready-made.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida with a colour-printed background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, sparkle threads, beads, needles and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: full cross stitches, back stitch and a few French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the house and snowman in cross stitch from the centre, then add the details in back stitch, the French knots and the beads.

Finished size: 25×28 cm (9.8×11 in). A cosy festive piece to bring out every December.
