Cane Webbing (Machine-Woven Sheet Cane)

Cane webbing — also called machine-woven cane, pre-woven cane, or sheet cane — is woven by machine from strands of chair cane. It is sold by the inch and is primarily used for redoing cane chairs that have a groove around the seat opening rather than drilled holes.

If your chair seat or back has holes drilled around the edge, you will need to do hand weaving. Visit our hand weaving supplies for the correct materials.

The mesh size on traditional cane webbing is determined by measuring the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the next. If you’re unsure of your cane size, send us a small sample and we’ll match it for you. Installation instructions are included with every order.

How to Measure

Measure from the outside edges of the groove at the widest points (front-to-back and side-to-side), then add 2" to each measurement. For example:

If your seat measures 16" x 15" from groove to groove, order an 18" x 17" piece of cane — meaning you’d select 17 inches of the 1/2" x 18" size.
